up a thousand, down a thousand, up a thousand, down. Burn out at 50NL - bloody awesome. Anyways, I basically stopped playing for 3-4 months (I have other ways of making money) and just thought about my game when I had a chance. I came to the conclusion that I want to win the money too badly. I have this insatiable desire to claim every pot, and that’s not a good thing. In addition, I tried to overlay monetary goals on my playing, which I also now believe to be a really bad idea. I think a good goal is to play winning poker, not to win X dollars. I’ve actually even set aside that goal for the moment. At present my goal is “to get better at poker”. It’s not tied to any results, + or -, just to learn and progress.
I’ve come up with a bunch of interesting approaches to this. I’ll share one with you now. Watch videos of winning players around my stake (50 & 100). Write down the logic applied to a hand. In the next hand, attempt to apply the same logic. If the results differ from the player, adjust the logic (algorithm), and start from the beginning. I’ve been working on this for the last week, and the results have been quite good so far.
The goal of this is to emulate play and instead of considering how I would approach a hand, ask myself how player X (a big winner) would approach the hand, and continue that approach through the session. This allows me to set aside my goal of winning every pot, and instead focus on how a winning player would play every pot. We’ll see…
I have escaped the monetary goals entirely, but I have restructured them into rewards instead. There’s no timeline, but there is a reward when you pass certain thresholds. Maybe I shouldn’t even call them rewards, but recognitions. The first one is my next 1k in winnings, I will take and purchase a dedicated poker PC with. I currently dual boot a MAC into windows when I play, and it frustrates me every time. A dedicated PC will let me play easier and faster on a whim.

after slowly leaking funds for a month, i have moved part of the role from tilt to stars. First 4 hours of play was +6 buy-ins. Hopefully it continues.

shorty sits with 20BB. I decide to give him action and he proceeds to ask me to donate 20BB to him. I decline, but he keeps begging. I raise KQ off and he flats. flop A45 rainbow. He checks, I cbet, he flats. Turn brings a 7. He checks and types into chat “just let me win this one OK?”. I bet min and he folds.

Well today sucked. Played 1200 hands. at the peak was up 110, at the bottom down 140, and finished down 86. Ran 1 buy-in below equity, so I guess I should be down $36. Something like $18 in rake-back.
I played a ton of short stackers. I would guess I ran pretty close to even against them today, which is bad, because they are awful. Its definitely where I lost my equity though. JJ didn’t hold to A9o and AJs didn’t hold to T8o both all-in pre for 40BBs.
Tomorrow will be more grinding. I have a lesson with my coach on Wed, so hopefully he can knock some sense into me. I feel like I am getting better, but the results say otherwise. Until tomorrow…

I’m wake walking through my sleeping state - Wait - Reverse that. I spent a long time playing STT or SNGs. I would 16 table them for about 6hrs a day. After ~8k they became boring. I never moved out of the lower limits and had trouble improving my game as I played so many at a time. Nevertheless I managed to profit about 8k.
I am now in the process of switching to cash - HUNL. Starting at the lowest limits (50NL) on full tilt and hopefully moving my way up. I’ve been working at this for the past month and figured out the basics. I put in 15k hands and am a 10bb/100 winner over the sample (thats not very impressive if you don’t know). I’ve worked with a few coaches, and believe I’ve now found one that meshes with my style.
Today was spent watching pr1nnyraiding again, working out a new deal with my coach, watching gran torino (its good by the way), and trying my hand at some steak frites. I was supposed to get some hands in, but tilted hard when I burnt the steak and undercooked the frites. Tomorrow I guess.
The plan is to move to 100NL within 2 weeks, so I guess that would be Jan 19th. I tend to spew pretty hard when I move up, so hopefully I can avoid that this time and minimize some variance.
